Why I Love Shoes…especially Heels!

Featured

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!” Marilyn Monroe

Hello Southernistas! Well I hope y’all are having a great week and that you have great plans (or not) for this last weekend in February! You might not know this but I love shoes! I actually own a little over 100 pair of shoes. I’ve actually written previously about two of my favorite shoe brands Nine West and Just Fab. Now I can hear the men saying “what woman doesn’t love shoes”…LOL! But my love of shoes especially heels border on obsession okay it is an obsession. I mean I use to watch Sex and the City just to get my shoe fix. I wear heels 6 days out of 7. My motto is the higher the heel the closer to God!

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love high heel shoes it is definitely a life long love affair. I think I get my love from my grandmother who loved heels and tried to pass it on to my mother but it skipped her and passed to me. I remember going out shopping with her and how she would bypass the flats and go straight to the heels section of the store. I guess it rubbed off on me because I’ve been wearing heels since I was 13 and as I got older my heels got higher. At one point I actually owned a pair of 5 1/2 inch heels.

Why do I love heels maybe its because I’m 5’3′ and I love how “tall” I feel when I wear them. I love how great my legs look in heels and as a short girl when I wear maxi dresses, skirts, or certain pants heels assist in “lifting” the hems so I’m not tripping over my hems and I don’t have to pay a visit to my tailor. They give a little extra oomph when I walk. Heels can take a plain ordinary look and kick it up a whole level. You’re wearing a LBD (little black dress) just add a killer pair of red stilettoes, animal print, sassy pattern or a jeweled sparkly shoe and boom just sit back and watch the compliments roll in!

The best things about heels is that unlike shopping for clothes they fit regardless of dress size. I love that heels come in different heights, types, and styles. I love a wedge heel for a relaxed and causal look and they are the best type to wear if you want to wear heels and be comfortable. Block heels are right up there with wedges when it comes to comfort but are dressier and perfect for the office and church. Stilettoes are for the ultimate girly girl and when you want to totally vamp it up! I myself am personally a stiletto girl and they make up a large percentage of my shoe collection but when I want to feel sexy, fierce, and unstoppable then my go to shoe is a pair of killer stilettoes and I feel like I can take on anything or anyone!

Now I know that many of you can’t wear heels or any kind for health reasons. Some of you have had surgeries, suffered sports related injuries, are dealing with a chronic illness, back issues and other reasons. I have friends who love heels but are just not able to wear them. But for those of you who are just a teeny, tiny bit hesitant about wearing heels my best advice is to start with a kitten heel (2″) or a cute little wedge and work your way up and stop at the heel height that feels comfortable for you.

I absolutely love shoes and I’m pretty sure when I’m 95 I’ll still be wearing high heels and they will probably be orthopedic and I’ll probably be using a walker but I’ll still be wearing them and loving them!

Until next time Southernistas! Keep your head, standards, and heels high!

Cold Weather Fashion

Hello Southernistas! Well after a very warm December winter has finally decided to make an appearance! While winter along with fall is not my favorite season I do love the fashion and I’m blessed to live in a state that experiences all four season (sometimes in a single day). So I indulged myself last month and added a few more sweaters and sweater dresses to my closet to keep me warm and cozy.

Until next time Southernistas! Stay warm and Be safe!

This sweater dress from Lane Bryant does double duty on those days when the temps are in the high 40s — 50s it is super warm and cozy with a pair of tried and true boots I’ve had forever from Payless. Because it is such a thick seater dress it gives double warmth under your coat for colder days.

This dress is still available , Alternate for boots herehereherehere

Fashion to Figure is a brand I’ve wanted to try for a while now but my style is sexy but modest and this brand is full on sexy! But all is not lost and by diligently looking I have scored some cute pieces that work for my style especially this red sweater dress. I just popped a white tank underneath and I was ready to go. The buttons are not functional and you can actually size down because the dress runs a little large. I wanted a compete head to to red look so I grabbed my red moto jacket (comes in several colors) from Eloquii and my brand new red pumps from JustFab and I am warm and slaying it!

Happy Friday Southernistas! I know it has been a while since I’ve blogged and I ask your forgiveness but the weather here in North Carolina has not lent itself to photo shoots but the rain seems to be holding off so I can create more content for the blog! I hope everyone has had a great week and that you have a great weekend.

Today Southernistas and fellow shoe addicts as you can tell from the title this blog is a memorial for my absolute favorite shoe store Payless Shoe Source. Last month the news broke that after 62 years Payless doors are closing and I am devastated. This news came out of nowhere and to say I was blindsided would be an understatement. Payless has always been my go to store for affordable and stylish shoes for years. In 2008 they partnered with Christian Siriano and it has been a very successful partnership. Payless has appeared on the runway at NYFW and who could forget the recent commercial where bloggers pair hundreds of dollars for their shoes because they though they were designer shoes.

There is no other shoe store you could go to with a $100 and walk out with 6 pairs of shoes a cute bag and still have change! That was the beauty of Payless your dollar went a long way especially for families. I can’t count the number of times I stood in line behind families who were buying shoes for the whole family especially during buy one get one half off. When I was really strapped for cash I knew I could always go to Payless and get a few pair shoes at a really great price.

There is no doubt I am going to miss Payless Shoe Source! I am going to miss Christian Siriano’s shoe line. I am going to miss the savings there is no doubt. I am just going to miss Payless!

So thank you Payless Shoe Source for the Christina Siriano collection, the great sales, but most of all the great shoes! I am going to miss you dear friend. R.I.P

Black & White

Hey Y’all!

Black and white is one of the classic combinations in fashion I mean you can’t go wrong with this color combo I mean the King of Pop himself even had a hit with a song titled Black or White. I know many myself included think of black & white as a basic combination but it is actually very chic and sophisticated and it doesn’t have to basic or boring. I actually learned this when I was reading the blog Supersize My Fashion titled BLK/WHT (click here to read) this past January and I was bowled over with how she took these classic colors up a notch and I was inspired to recreate her look but put my own spin on the look. I began my search for a dress similar to what Dionne was wearing and I began to despair that I would find something similar because the dress Dionne wore was sold out. Just when I was ready to give up hope I received a catalog from Venus which is a new company to me, but as I began to look through the catalog I discovered this black and white lace up dress. I could not believe my eyes and I was over the moon when I saw they offered it in plus size so I immediately went to their website and ordered the dress. When the dress I arrived it was every bit as beautiful as it looked on the website. Then my search began for a pair of shoes, I knew I didn’t want boots, and once again I started to get discouraged until I went on Amazon and found these black & white shoes (here)! They are actually a pair of shoes I didn’t order two pairs and wore one black shoe and one white shoe LOL. My overall style is modest so I paired this white blouse I got from Eloquii a few years ago underneath the dress because the neckline is a little too low for my aesthetic. I was so pleased with how this look came together and got so many compliments when I got to church.

Until next time Southernistas and remember Be Bold, Be Fearless, Be Confident!

Shoe Diary: Stylish Flats

Hey Y’all!

If you haven’t discovered by now that I love heels and I love high heels but I’ve also come to realize how stylish flats can be also. This doesn’t mean I’ve given up my heels or plan to give them anytime soon but I’ve come to realize that flats are great too and they are practical for running errands and having on hand to change into when you’re at an event and you start to feel the effects of wearing those heels for a few hours. I’ve started to incorporate more flats into my shoe wardrobe. I know that many of my Southernistas out there can’t wear heels or want wear heels and that’s okay. For some heels are uncomfortable and not worth the trouble and for others heels are not an option because of medical conditions or other issues but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear stylish flats. A stylish pair of flats can make the outfit just as fabulous as those stilettos! Below I’ve selected a few of my favorite flats that will complete any look and give that Instagram pic a wow factor!

Shoe Spotlight: Just Fab

Hey y’all!

I hope you had a great 4th of July and a great week if you’re on vacation this week.

I want to talk about another of my favorite go to for shoes: JustFab (www.justfab.com). In fact at one point just about every week I had a delivery waiting for me from JustFab. Just Fab doesn’t just offer shoes they also have handbags, clothes, and jewelry. Other brands that are part of the JustFab brand are JustFab Kids, Fabletics which is there active wear brand, and Shoe Dazzle but today I want to talk about their shoes. JustFab is not a subscription service but you do have join JustFab. You fill out a style profile and the cost is $39.95 a month but you have the option of skipping the month if you don’t see anything you like or if it’s not in your budget. The cost is applied as a credit towards your purchase so you can easily pay only the shipping cost and nothing else. I cannot say enough about JustFab and their shoes they offer. They have flats, heels, wedges, boots, and sneakers. They also offer many of their shoes in wide widths and they go up to a size 12 and they offer some their boots in wide calf. If you see a pair of shoes that you love and it doesn’t come in wide widths I go up a 1/2 size and this works for fine for me. I really love this brand and I really love the fact that they offer an extensive selection of shoes so there is something for everyone. You have to be quick if you see a pair of shoes you really love because they do tend to sell out fast.

Gingham Heels and Flats (no longer available)

I loved these so much I got them in both colors (no longer available)

At JustFab there is a shoe for everyone and every style and if you get overwhelmed with the shoe choices you can narrow your search by size, heel height, and type of shoe!

Until next time Be Bold, Be Fearless, Be Confident!

Nine West Shoes

Nine West Shoes

Hey Y’all!

Well it’s Friday which means its time for another shoe spotlight and this week I am putting the spotlight on my new favorite Nine West. This year Nine West is celebrating it’s 40th Anniversary! Forty years of stylist and beautiful shoes this is a milestone! Nine West also carries handbags, sunglasses, hats, and other accessories. I am relatively new to Nine West shoes but my sister has been a Nine West customer for years and I always admired her shoes I don’t know what took me so long. Some of you may think Nine West is out of your budget but there is always a sale so you can get a great pair of shoes at a reasonable price. I like to wait until they have their buy 3 and get 40% off sale and then I rack up on shoes I’ve been eyeing. I wear a size 9 wide and although Nine West does not offer wide widths I order a 1/2 side up and the shoe fits comfortably. They also offer up to a size 12 but they don’t offer wide calf boots but I hope that Nine West will in the future offer both. Check out Nine West you’ll thank me!

Shoe Spotlight: Payless Shoes

Happy Friday y’all!

Let me start this by saying this is not sponsored by Payless Shoe but oh how I wish it was.

It’s no secret that my go to shoe store is Payless Shoe Source. If they ever go public I’m buying stock in Payless because I love this shoe store. If you think Payless doesn’t have chic shoes then you are depriving yourself and you really shouldn’t mistreat yourself. Payless Shoes has even made their NYFW debut! Some years ago Payless partnered with season 1 Project Runway winner and incredibly talented designer Christian Siriano and it is the best thing the powers that be at Payless ever did. This year you were able to purchase the shoes from Christina Siriano’s NYFW show at Payless…SCORE! It’s a great way to own a pair of designer shoes without paying the designer price. They also offer shoe brands American Eagle, BRASH, and other brands. You can also buy Champion tennis shoes at a great price too. Looking for a great pocketbook they have an amazing collection. For you ladies who wear a larger size Payless goes up to a size 12 wide and you can shop for the whole family without busting your budget. There is always a sale and you can really expand your shoe wardrobe when the buy one get one 1/2 off sale going. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the store check them out online. Now I will say that some shoes run small, some run true to size, and some run large so try before you buy. You can also purchase socks, hosiery, shoelaces, and products to care for your shoes.

For a southern girl the shoe is everything and I don’t know about anywhere else in the country but I was raised that the shoes must compliment or match the outfit. If the shoes, along with hat and purse (it’s a thing), were not on point the whole outfit was a fail. As we say in the South we just can’t have that. The last thing you want to hear someone say when they look at your outfit is “bless your heart! what a sweet little outfit” trust me this is not a compliment it’s a sweet way of saying “I can’t believe you left the house looking like that!” Thankfully when I go to Payless I can always find the perfect shoe.

Making a Statement

Hey Y’all and Happy Friday! I don’t know about you but I am looking forward to the three day weekend!

For this shoe blog I want to talk about the statement shoe. What is a statement shoe I hear you asking? A statement shoe pulls your outfit together but gives it that POP you’re looking for. As I stated in my first shoe blog for me shoes are the ultimate accessory. Before I started this fashion journey I always took pride in my shoes and I expressed myself via my feet. Gone are the days of the traditional shoes to match your outfit. There was a time when the ultimate statement shoe was a metallic shoe but now statement shoes have arrived and they come in different prints, patterns, crystals, feathers, over the top metallic and the list goes on when it comes to shoes. If heels aren’t your thing statement shoes also come in flats too so no excuses. The shoe I want to introduce you to are these beautiful sparkly floral wedges by Botkier! Botkier is a brand I’ve recently discovered and the shoes are amazing and if I could I would buy every shoe on the website but my budget will not permit this sadly! I’ve had to restrain myself from wearing them everyday since I received them. These shoes do run true to size so if you have wide feet like I do order up a 1/2 size of if you need to go up a size.

Jessie (Pastel Floral) www.botkier.com

This is definitely a statement shoe and I’ve worn these shoes when I’ve wanted to take what I’m wearing to the next level . These shoes have been an immediate hit every time I’ve worn them and they are very comfortable despite the 4″ heel. As you can see from the picture below the shoes added that pizzazz to my outfit. The great thing about a statement shoe is that it can immediately dress up a casual outfit and give it a touch of glam.

Shirt, Pants, and Cardigan from Dia & Co. Pocketbook from Nine West

Regardless of the type of job you have there is statement shoe out there for you that will work in any environment. This shoe is a great way to express yourself if you’re not ready to make a bolder statement with your fashion.

Until the next time Be Bold, Be Fearless, Be Confident and wear the shoe!

It’s a Shoe Thing

Happy Friday Y’all!

It’s no secret that I love shoes especially heels and the higher the heel the better. My family and friends all know that I take my shoes very seriously. I don’t like to brag but my shoe game is fierce! I am often inspired in my outfit choices by a pair of shoes that I want to wear. For me shoes are the ultimate accessory. You can dress up an outfit or dress down an outfit just by changing your shoes. Now I will admit I have more heels than flats in my closet but I’m working on incorporating more flats in my shoe wardrobe.

This weekend I went to DSW shoe store just to look and ended up buying two pairs of shoes the first are these cute gingham print Anne Klein shoes. Gingham is still avery much a popular trend and they can work as a neutral. It’s a great way to add a pop to a monochromatic outfit. These shoes are true to size and very comfortable which is always a plus when wearing heels. The second pair of shoes I spied were these Kelly & Katie denim heels that have a round toe instead of a pointed toe (your toes will thank you). If you don’t own a pair of denim shoes what are you waiting for? These shoes are true to size and again very, very comfortable. If you’ve never been to DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) I highly recommend DSW it’s a great place to get designer shoes without the designer price.

My next stop was Payless Shoe Source to check out their sale and I found these cute pair of flats! I love these flats and the gold studs on the flats make them that extra something. Flats don’t have to be boring and although I love my heels I realize that flats are practical but practical doesn’t have to mean boring and they can be very stylish. The great thing about Payless is your dollar goes a long way at Payless especially when they are having their buy one get one ½ off sale. If you didn’t know the incredibly talented designer Christian Siriano has a shoe line and pocketbooks with Payless for some years now.

I hope you enjoyed this little shoe blog.

Have a great weekend!
